PADAYON: Ang Pagpapatuloy ng mga Sayaw Filpino

PADAYON: Ang Pagpapatuloy ng mga Sayaw Filpino

The La Salle Dance Company – Folk (LSDC-Folk) is the official folk dance group of De La Salle University. This relatively new group under the Culture and Arts Office seeks to re-establish the Filipino identity in Lasallians and in the Filipino youth through the research, mastery, and presentation of the different Filipino cultural dances, as well as to be active in representing the contemporary issues that are affecting the Filipino indigenous communities.

In line with that we present to you our 3rd Anniversary Concert entitled PADAYON. “Padayon” is the Sugbuanon or Bisaya word for “continue” or “to continue.” This concert will present folk and ethnic dances that directly relates to a human’s life cycle; from conception to adulthood. Dances and rituals will be categorized based on their origin and the stage of human growth and life that it is associated with. This is also our way of saying that we are continuing our commitment to stage and present folk and ethnic dances to the Lasallian community. LSDC-Folk will pioneer a new form of presentation for PADAYON. We call it our 4D concert! The stage will be extended to the audience area; segments of the set design will be placed at some parts of the aisles and at the “dead” portions of the theater where the presentation may not be fully viewed.

It will be held on January 29, 30 and 31, 2015 at the William Shaw Little Theatre, De La Salle University at 7pm. Ticket price is at 200 pesos only. For Ticket Inquiries, Show Buying and Sponsorships please contact Mariane Detera at 0927-479-8167.

Dance Dance Asia : Crossing the Movements

December 22, 2014 Leave a comment

Dance Dance Asia
– Crossing the Movements –

Start the year grooving to the cool moves of Japanese street dance groups with free shows on January 17 and 18 at the RCBC Plaza.

Street dance—including not only hip-hop but a variety of genres such as jazz dance and contemporary dance—is at the forefront of Dance Dance Asia, a long-term project by the Japan Foundation Asia Center that promotes exchange and collaboration among street dance groups in ASEAN countries. For 2015, its debut year, the event is dubbed Dance Dance Asia – Crossing the Movements.

The project kicks off in the Philippines with the Japan Foundation, Manila welcoming three Japanese street dance groups: s**t kingz, Tokyo Gegegay and TAPDANCERIZE. The groups will render show-stopping performances at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati City on January 17 (Saturday) at 7:30 p.m. and January 18 (Sunday) at 3 p.m. Both shows are open to the public and free, but pre-event registration is required.

s**t kingz was formed in October 2007 and rose to fame after winning two years in a row in “Body Rock” dance contest in California. They are known for their stylish and attractive formations and performances, which have brought them a cult following in the global street dance scene.

Tokyo Gegegay is led by MICKEY. The group was formed in order to compete in the 5th season of “Dance@Hero”, a dance contest in Japan, whose top plum they ended up bagging. Through performances that display a deep storyline and unique world view, the group entertains and wows fans.

TAPDANCERIZE features three members: Yuri Uragami, Gunjo and Satomi Toma. Based on a rhythm-and-tap dance style originally from black folk culture, the group’s backbone is inspired by ballet, jazz dance, break dance, and soul dance. Their “dancing percussionist” style can’t be fully summed up in just one genre.

Prior to the shows, the groups will also conduct free dance workshops on January 15 (Thursday) and January 16 (Friday) at the Steps Dance Studio in Makati City. Each group will hold one workshop session per day. Participants strictly need to have sufficient experience or advanced skills in street dance or contemporary dance.

Dance Dance Asia – Crossing the Movements is also made possible with planning and production by PARCO Co., Ltd; and production assistance by Last Train Getter Co., Ltd.

Check out www.jfmo.org.ph for the videos, workshop schedules and registration details. Send a message to email@jfmo.or.ph or call 02 811-6155 to 58 for inquiries.
